Crouched in the high grass clearing,
Where the river bends,
I hear the sonorous calls
of the turtle clan.
Mud daubed and tattooed
They emerge from the twisted mangroves
Wary as gazelles
Unseen, I follow the trail through the cypress swamp
Where murmurs echo in pools of black water
Mossy sloth hang head down from vines,
Vacant yellow eyes
Stare unfazed at my passing
Blue Suede Truth
Warm nights whisper
semi-sweet
A soft parade
of scufflin’ feet
Trace worn paths
across your soul
To the livin’ pulse
of rock n’ roll
Twilight’s shadows
on a midnight creep
ghosts dreamwalk
in broken sleep
Soft beats ooze
though August heat
schoolyards shimmer
lovers meet
To gulp down life
on stoops, in alleys

These half real nights
spawn spirit dances
That writhe and gyre
